About the workshop:
“I hope that listening can be a conduit to write something as a group. I would like to pay attention to the power of vocal expression and oral narrative over the written page. I hope that listening can also be a means to recognize the disparate spaces that we inhabit and occupy during the pandemic. I am curious about the ways in which listening and language may connect these spaces. I will invite participants to do exercises that combine listening, writing, reading aloud and reading silently.”
S F Ho is an artist living on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ peoples. They’re into community building, books, and being sort of boring. They wrote a novella about aliens and love called George the Parasite.

AUGUST 9 – NO TREE IS UNTOUCHED BY THE WIND

Vine Arts Festival returns to Hadden Park this year and features a new outdoor sound installation by George Rahi. Integrating an artistic practice in kinetic sound sculpture, new media technology, and acoustic instrument making, no tree is untouched by the wind is comprised of a series of individually suspended metallophone bells interfaced with electro-magnetically controlled actuators distributed throughout the park. Much as the way the diffuse qualities of ringing church bells and dispersed bird songs draw attention to the acoustic profile of the soundscape, the resonant tones of the installation similarly prompt listeners to hold the entire sound field in their attention to discern between its focal and overlapping qualities with the surrounding space. This work links together research and praxis in acoustic ecology and sound art, and explores the capacities for artworks to further ecological ways of thinking.
